Senior living communities are retirement communities intended for senior adults, but may not be assisted living communities. A senior living community is typically a residential community designed specifically for senior adults; however, some communities allow extended help from home health care agencies, and socialization and activities are often offered. The term senior living community is generally used to describe any community that houses or has a large percentage of homes or apartment units designed specifically for senior adults. These communities are also referred to as senior communities, or seniors' communities. View here for more details about this service.
Seniors living in senior living communities offer a variety of services to their residents. Some have onsite stores, libraries, gyms, pools, parks, exercise facilities, and other amenities. Others have a combination of services, including shopping, dining, and entertainment. In some cases, senior living communities provide services only for a specific age group or demographic. For example, some apartments communities have dining facilities only for senior adults.
Many senior living communities offer several types of residents. For example, some have a mix of renters, like renters with children and senior adults, or senior adults and active-duty military personnel. Other senior living communities offer residents a choice of apartment styles. In some apartments, residents have many of the same floor plans (one unit on each floor), while others have different floors spaced in various configurations, like first and second, third and fourth, etc. Some senior living communities have pools, fitness classes, and gyms, and some have activities for residents who live alone.
One of the most common features of senior living communities are the housing options. Senior apartments and condos come with many unique housing options. These housing options can include different types of apartments or condominiums (for singles and families), gated communities (for seniors only), and fully furnished residences (for active-duty military personnel). In addition, senior living communities sometimes offer more generous and flexible options than other housing options. Residents may be able to reserve extra bedrooms when they need them, or they may be able to reserve extra spaces for members of their family who visit.
Some senior living communities offer supportive services to senior adults and individuals. These services include access to meals and/or showers; access to transportation; assistance with housekeeping; laundry assistance; and childcare programs. Senior independent living communities also provide opportunities for senior citizens to interact with other older adults. They can enjoy social activities, entertainment, educational programs, and interaction with other similar senior adults. Independent senior living communities offer more freedom for seniors than other housing options.
While senior living communities can be very helpful to seniors looking for a place to live after years of working in offices or corporate environments, there are many independent senior living communities that are not as upscale. These are usually called "assisted living facilities" or "assisted living condos." Many of these senior independent living communities offer a combination of independent housing and services that elderly individuals can use to stay healthy and happy. These communities do not contain health facilities, but many have onsite physicians and nurses on hand to ensure the safety and care of seniors living there.
